Local Allocation of End-to-End Quality-of-Service in High-Speed Networks

چکیده
Quality of service QOS requirements for applications in high speed networks are typically speci ed on an end to end basis Mapping this end to end requirement to nodal requirements facilitates providing QOS guarantees and simpli es connection admission In this paper we evaluate strategies for such local allocation of the end to end QOS A QOS allocation policy is said to perform better than another when the maximumnetwork load that it can support is greater A major contribution of this work is the development of a nodal metric that predicts the relative performance of QOS allocation policies in a network setting Computation of the nodal metric and direct evaluation of allocation policy performance for two simple network models yield valuable insight into the choice of allocation policies Intuitively one expects signi cant di erences in the performance of alloca tion policies when there are signi cant imbalances in nodal resource capacities or tra c loads It is found however that with the packet loss probability as the QOS metric there is little di erence in the performance of allocation policies in the regime of applications with low loss requirements From a practical viewpoint this suggests that a simple allocation policy may be adopted in this scenario with only a small decrease in carried load with respect to an optimal policy For applica tions which tolerate large packet loss or alternate QOS metrics however QOS allocation policies di er signi cantly in their performance Our results indicate that the development of optimal QOS allocation policies is of interest in such cases

In this paper, we evaluate strategies for local allocation of the end-to-end QOS. A QOS allocation policy is said to perform better than anot...
متن کاملThe Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks
Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...
متن کاملA flexible bandwidth resource provisioning system with agent-enhanced SLA negotiation
We present a novel bandwidth resource provisioning system that enables dynamic, flexible and quantitative end-to-end bandwidth reservation and management. The system facilitates agent-enhanced Service Level Agreement (SLA) negotiation and brokering on a per-user, per-application or per-flow basis. In this paper, various session level SLA schemes involving bandwidth allocation, service start tim...
متن کاملImproving Quality of Service Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks Using OLSR
Mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) are constructed by mobile nodes without access point. Since MANET has certain constraints, including power shortages, an unstable wireless environment and node mobility, more power-efficient and reliable routing protocols are needed. The OLSR protocol is an optimization of the classical link state algorithm. OLSR introduces an interesting concept, the multipoint r...

We propose a class of non-work-conserving service disciplines, called the Rate-Controlled Service Disciplines. When coupled with suitable admission control algorithms, Rate-Controlled Service Disciplines can provide end-to-end deterministic and statistical performance guarantees on a per-connection basis in an arbitrary topology packet-switching network. The key feature of a rate-controlled ser...
